leads to Emory & Henry College, a small liberal arts college founded in 1836. A growing and thriving academic community shares its first name with the Methodist Bishop for whom Emory University in Atlanta was also named. The second name is for Early American statesman - and Virginian - Patrick Henry. With a new performing arts center and the development of new equestrian and athletic facilities, Emory & Henry College is an important part of the Meadowview community.

… leads to the historic town of Abingdon, Virginia. Established in 1776, Abingdon boasts several historic attractions such as The Martha Washington Inn, known affectionately as ‘The Martha’, and The Barter Theatre - the oldest continuously running professional Equity theatre in the United States - that has hosted such actors as Gregory Peck, Patricia Neal and John Glover, among others. Also, ‘The Tavern’, built in 1779 as a tavern and Inn for stagecoach travelers, now anchors a wide variety of dining establishments and shops lining Abingdon’s main street. Abingdon is also the trailhead of ‘The Virginia Creeper Trail’ - a scenic bike path that stretches 35 miles to the top of ‘White Top Mountain’ via Damascus, Virginia, a well-known hospitality stop along the Appalachian Trail.
